Jersey swimmer Filip Nowacki gained the gold medal within the 100m breaststroke on the World Junior Championships in Romania.
The 17-year-old completed in 59.20 seconds, 0.3 seconds away from runner-up Shin Ohashi, of Japan.
Nowacki is chasing three medals on the occasion in Otopeni, and also will compete within the 200m and 50m breaststroke occasions later this week.
The 200m heats and ultimate happen on Friday, whereas the 50m heats and semi-finals happen on Saturday, with the ultimate on Sunday.
Nowacki is the holder of the European junior document within the 200m and the British junior document within the 100m breaststroke, which was beforehand held by a number of Olympic gold medallist Adam Peaty.
