France hooker Peato Mauvaka has been cited for foul play following his off-the-ball problem on Scotland’s Ben White in Paris on Saturday.
The hosts ran out 35-16 victors at Stade de France to clinch their first Six Nations championship since 2022.
However many had been bemused as Mauvaka escaped with a yellow card following an obvious headbutt on the grounded Scottish scrum-half after 20 minutes of a good first half.
“The choice to not elevate it to a pink card was as a result of there was not extreme drive,” stated Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend after the match. “I am undecided that is actually the standards for a non-tackle incident.
“It clearly was a non-tackle incident, it was after the whistle. So, if there was head contact and that was intentional, it should not be something to do with the drive that was concerned.
“I really feel sorry for Ben White right here, as a result of he did nothing. He was to start with pushed to the bottom, and a push is nothing in rugby, after which he acquired collided within the head, so I do not know the way it wasn’t raised to a pink card.”
Mauvaka will attend an impartial disciplinary listening to on Thursday by way of video convention.
A 3-person panel will study the case relating to Legislation 9.12 (A participant should not… strike with any a part of the arm, shoulder, head or knee(s)).
The incident had been referred by referee Matthew Carley to assessment officer Ian Tempest to determine whether or not the sanction ought to be upgraded to a 20-minute pink card, with one other participant changing Mauvaka.
