The Sports activities Award is the fifth of the eight prizes awarded yearly by the Princess of Asturias Basis, after the Communication and Humanities Award was given to the German thinker and essayist of South Korean origin Byung-Chul Han, the Literature Award to the author Eduardo Mendoza, the Social Sciences Award to the American sociologist and demographer Douglas Massey and the Arts Award to the Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide.
Like the remainder of the awards, the prize consists of a replica of a sculpture by Joan Miro -a consultant image of the award-, a money prize of 50,000 euros, a diploma and a badge.
After the Sports activities Award, the Concordia (June 4), Scientific and Technical Analysis (June 12) and Worldwide Cooperation (June 18) awards will nonetheless be determined. In its forty third version, 354 candidates from 60 nationalities have been proposed for the Princess of Asturias Awards, which can be introduced on the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo in October.
